One held with ornamental fish

MANGALDAI, Aug 30 - The forest protection staff in the Orang National Park and the Tiger Reserve Project on Tuesday apprehended a person in connection with illegal catching of a rare variety of ornamental fish within the territory of the park along the Bogoribari boundary.

According to Chakrapani Rai, range officer of the park, one Jiabur Rahman, a resident of the adjacent Bogoribari village, illegally entered the park to catch a rare species of aquarium fish called �Channan Barca�, locally known as �Barca Cheng�. One such fish, weighing about one kilogram, was recovered from the accused.

During the preliminary interrogation, Jiabur stated before the forest staff that such fish variety has a huge demand in the market. Meanwhile, Rai, while talking to this correspondent over phone, admitted that a smuggling racket has been actively operating in the park, for which the forest staff has intensified their vigil.
