SIVASAGAR, Jan 28: Babul Das, a resident of Puroni Pukhuri area of Jaysagar, was arrested by police on January 25 while he was carrying home dead aquatic birds from Rupohipathar.
The low lying swampy fields and large waterbodies of Rupohipathar, Jaysagar Borpukhuri, Gaurisagar,Laksmisagar, Napukhuri, Puronipukhuri, Demowpathar, Zerengapathar and Pohugarh are places where migratory aquatic birds come for their winter sojourn.
But a gang has been continuously killing these birds through various methods including use of pesticides.
The Forest Department was alerted by the new Deputy Commissioner Sivasagar Dr S Laksmanan a couple of days back about the menace of migratory bird killing.
