Olympic Day observed

GUWAHATI, June 23 � Braving unfavourable weather condition, a good number of people turned up to take part in the Olympic Day Run which was organised here by Assam Olympic Association to mark the International Olympic Day.

The run started at the Chandmari flyover and ended at RG Baruah Sports Complex. Leading sportspersons like Kamlesh Mehta, Monalisa Baruah Mehta, Tayabun Nesa along with a host of sports organisers and sportspersons led the run which was flagged off by State Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain. Sports Minister Ajit Singh, former MLA and president of Guwahati Sports Association Rana Goswami, young leader Gaurav Gogoi, top Assam Police officers and several cine artistes also took part in the run.

Sportspersons from various organisations and institutions ran throughout the course in a disciplined way.

The organisers honoured veteran woman athlete Bhagya Kalita of Mangaldai, sports organiser and educationist Kumudeswar Hazarika and former State table tennis player Dwarik Sarma with a citation and Rs 10,000 each before start of the run. Noted sportspersons and film artists a were also felicitated on the occasion. The organisers thanked Assam Police, Marwari Yuva Manch, District Health Department, PWD, etc., for giving a helping hand in organising the event.
