OIL to host Saksham Cycle Day on Jan 20

GUWAHATI, Jan 16 - The Oil India Limited (OIL) will organise the Saksham Cycle Day here on January 20 at 7 am.

The event is being organised to make citizens aware of the conservation and effective utilisation of petroleum products and inspire Guwahatians to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Saksham Cycle Day is India�s Premier cycling event, which aims to propagate the importance of fuel conservation and efficient energy utilisation, amongst the citizens of India. In an effort to instill socio-environmental consciousness, Saksham Cycle Day is an initiative by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), a non-profit organisation set up in 1978 under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas engaged in promoting energy efficiency in various sections of the economy.

OIL has organised Saksham Cycle Day with NGO Earthful Foundation and Cycling Clubs of Guwahati like Guwahati Cyclothon, Spokehub and BYCS.

There will be no one time use of plastic water bottles at the event and the water will be provided in cups instead.

OIL�s Chief General Manager � Pipeline Services, Samir Das said, �This is a cycling experience with an emphasis on building a community that is aware about its fuel conservation responsibilities and holistically getting to more environment friendly habits. The popularity of cycling is growing in our city and it provides us with a great opportunity to achieve environmental consciousness amongst people. Our endeavour as organisers of Saksham Guwahati will be to provide an enriching experience to the cyclists and attendees awareness towards fuel conservation and environment friendly ways.�

It was stated in an OIL release issued by Chief Manager Tridib Duvarah.
