DIBRUGARH, Nov 20 � Oil India Limited became the first Indian company to partner the Global Fund in the fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria by signing a memorandum of understanding with the Global Fund and the Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited (IL&FS). The IL&FS is the principal recipient of the Global Fund in India and has been implementing projects for the Global Fund for the last five years.
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria mobilizes and invests nearly $4 billion a year to support programmes run by local experts in more than 140 countries. Partnering with governments, private sector and civil society, the Global Fund is committed to accelerating the end of AIDS, TB and malaria as epidemics.
OIL contributed Rs 1 crore for the project in the current fiscal, which will be equally matched by the Global Fund. The project will be implemented by IL&FS across OIL�s operational areas in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan for a period of five years, said OIL PRO Tridiv Hazarika. The cheque was handed over on Tuesday at Duliajan by the OIL resident chief executive, V Sharma.
