KOHIMA, June 10 The Naga Students Federation (NSF) has stated that it would soon consider relaxation of the ongoing protest ban on movement of vehicles to Manipur in view of the appeals made by various organisations following the receipt of a letter of regret from the Government of Manipur.
It may be recalled that the NSF had imposed ban on the movement of Manipur-registered vehicles since May 4 evening consequent upon the failure of the Manipur government to tender public apology for not allowing NSF officials to visit Oinam village on May 3. An ultimatum demanding apology from Manipur Chief Minister setting a 24-hour deadline had been served on the day of the incident.
A letter, addressed to Manipur Chief Minister and signed by NSF vice-president Sinhilo Thong and general secretary O Wati Jamir, was made available to the press this evening. The letter acknowledged the Manipur Chief Secretarys letter dated June 5 conveying the Manipur CMs regret for the inconvenience caused to the NSF officials at Mao Gate on May 3.
The letter said the federation is not fully convinced with the contents of the Manipur governments communication; however, taking into consideration the appeals made by various organisations, the NSF said it would consider relaxing the ongoing agitation within a short period of time.
It, however, made it clear that the principle stand of the NSF stated in their earlier ultimatum (that imposition of 144 CrPC in all Naga inhabited areas should be revoked) would still stand.
