ITANAGAR, June 16 - Security forces have apprehended a top commander of the NSCN (Reformation) faction from Changlang district. He has been identified as self-styled sgt major Monpi Mamai, who was recently appointed as the Changlang town commander of the outfit, after the apprehension of one Chingmon Mamai.
Based on Intelligence inputs about the presence of the NSCN(R) top commander in Chokdok area of Changlang district, the Changlang Battalion of the Assam Rifles, under the aegis of HQ 25 Sector Assam Rifles, launched an operation and apprehended him. A Myanmarese-made .22 mm pistol and five rounds of ammunition were recovered from the top cadre.
The arrested cadre was responsible for extortion activities and several other anti-national activities in the area, stated a press note from the Assam Rifles here.
