NRL to organise Saksham Cycle Day at Silchar on Jan 19

SILCHAR, Jan 10 - In a bid to sensitize masses about petroleum conservation and judicious use of petroleum products, authorities of Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) will organise a Saksham Cycle Day here on January 19.

Addressing media persons at the conference hall of Superintendent of Police, Cachar on Thursday, Madhuchanda Adhikari Choudhury, DGM Corporate Communication NRL said, �The initiative is a part of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG), Government of India in which Silchar, along with 199 other cities of the country, shall take part in the Green Ride campaign to pledge for efficient use of petroleum products and ensure better health and environment.

�We are expecting a gathering of over 1000 cyclists who would echo the theme � �Indhan Adhik Na Khapayen, Aao Pariyavaran Bachayen.� This 5-kilometre drive in Silchar will be a part of Saksham 2020, starting at 6 am from Police Parade ground through Cachar College Madhuramukh, Rongour and culminating at the starting point. We hope to see some celebrities along with high officials from Cachar Police and district administration along with NRL authorities.�

The DGM also informed that with the same objective, NRL will also organise a walkathon at Silchar on February 2.

On the other hand, talking about the issues of petroleum conservation, Madhuchanda informed that as per the North East Vision Policy 2030, a number of initiatives have been taken including expansion of the biggest petroleum base here from 3 million metric ton to 9 million metric ton.

Sharing their anticipation about the cycle rally, Cachar SP Manabendra Dev Ray and Additional SP (HQ) Jagadish Das urged people above 12 years of age to join the event and spread the message of petroleum conservation.

New Cachar DC interacts with media persons: After taking charge as the 81st Deputy Commissioner of Cachar district, Barnali Sarma, ACS interacted with media persons on Thursday.

In an interactive meeting with the pressmen at her conference hall, Deputy Commissioner put across her commitment to work for the infrastructure and socio-civic development of the district and ensured that well-being of the people would be her priority.

Seeking support and cooperation from the media fraternity, Sarma said that she would strive to accomplish the objective of �Clean, Green and Beautiful Silchar� during her tenure.

�I understand the district has multi-pronged problems including erratic traffic and waterlogging, which has caused great difficulty to the denizens over the years. Also, the garbage disposal has been another major issue along with many others which call for immediate attention. I ensure that my efforts shall be there to address the issues with priority and rest, the results shall speak,� the Deputy Commissioner maintained. Sarma also responded to queries on many core issues raised by the journalists in the meeting.
