DHUBRI, Jan 4 - After publishing the names of only 35.76 per cent people in the first NRC draft list, the district administration is all set to resume the re-verification work for the NRC update from January 5.
This time, as many as 451 verification teams will be engaged for visiting house-to-house for verifying the already submitted documents. While for parental linkage verification, 76 numbers of special verification officers will be engaged to operate in various parts of the district.
While talking to this correspondent, Shantanu Chakraborty, District Project Supervisor of NRC, said that they were given the target of verifying 3,45,170 documents, but they completed only 1.83 lakh documents till December 24.
In this phase, we will try to verify the rest of the documents as soon as possible, said Chakraborty, adding that for smooth functioning, all the necessary arrangements have been done.
In the recently published first draft NRC list, names of 38.26 per cent people in Agomoni Circle, 30.13 per cent in Bilasipara Circle, 35.65 per cent in Chapar Circle, 36.06 per cent in Dhubri Circle and 33.40 per cent in Golkganj Circle have been included.
Moreover, in the first draft NRC list, the names of South Salmara MLA Wajed Ali Chaudhary, Golokganj MLA Aswini Roy Sarkar, former MLAs of Golokganj Abu Taher Bepari and Dalimi Roy, Dhubri MLA Nazrul Hoque, former MLAs of Dhubri Jahanuddin Ahmed and Dhruva Sen, former Deputy Speaker of Assam Assembly Giasuddin Ahmed and former MPs and MLAs of Bilasipara East Abdul Hamid, Prasanta Baruah and Gulaktara Begum, were not included.
Explaining the reason for the low percentage of names in the first draft NRC list, the Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri, Anant Lal Gyani, said, We aimed at making a correct and authentic NRC list, so the verification took time.
Although, we got a very good response from the people, but the population of the district is much more than any other districts, due to which we couldnt match the percentage of names compared to many other districts. We are hopeful that by next phase, we can come up with a good number in this regard, he added.
