SHILLONG, Jan 7 - Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today said that all options, including quitting the NDA, are open before the National People�s Party (NPP) if the Citizens� Amendment Bill is passed.
Reacting to the report of the Asom Gana Parishad pulling out of the NDA, Sangma, who is also the NPP president, said: �all options are open,� while reiterating that the NPP doesn�t support the Bill. The NPP is a constituent of the NDA.
�We are the first party to oppose the Bill. In fact, we opposed the Citizenship Bill through a Cabinet decision last year. This is one of the most aggressive manner in which our decision was conveyed to the Centre,� Sangma said.
Sangma, reacting to demands from some quarters to drop the lone BJP MLA in the Cabinet, AL Hek, said, he has also supported the Government�s decision in the Cabinet and stands committed to protect the interest of the indigenous people of the region.
Meanwhile, the BJP party office at Bivar Road here was attacked last night with a petrol bomb. The attack happened at midnight and police say that three to four unidentified men hurled the bomb and fled.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Davis R Marak said that police are analysing the CCTV cameras in the area to identify the attackers.
Meanwhile, elaborate security measures have been undertaken in view of the bandh called by various students� organisations against the proposed Bill tomorrow.
Marak said that the security personnel would ensure that noone tries to enforce the bandh and shops, offices and other establishments function normally.
