SHILLONG, June 20 - National Peoples Party (NPP) on Sunday alleged the Congress Government intentionally held back Mawluh Cherra Cement Limiteds (MCCL) development over the years so that it could be sold to private parties.

Reacting to a statement made by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Friday of having an open mind to privatise MCCL, NPP said the party would oppose any such move.

This move on the part of the Chief Minister goes to show that the Congress Government was intentionally holding back the MCCL from reaching its full potential with an eye to sell it to a private company one day, NPP spokesperson, James Sangma said.

James said, the party believes that the health of MCCL will improve with adequate Government attention. The blame for the poor performance of MCCL has unnecessarily gone on the employees who are now being forcibly made to opt for VRS, James added.
