Noted sports photographer Tarani Barman passes away

GUWAHATI, Feb 22 - Well known sports photographer and former employee of Forensic Laboratory Tarani Kanta Barman passed away at a local hospital today. He was 80.

Barman was closely associated with sports photography since 1960s and clicked several memorable photographs of Bordoloi Trophy.

Very popular among the sporting fraternity, Barman was closely associated with several leading organisations like Maharana Athletic Club, Guwahati Sports Association (GSA), Assam Football Association (AFA), Assam Olympic Association (AOA), Abhiruchi Sports Day, among others. He was a founder member of the Assam Sports Journalists Association (ASJA) which organised an exhibition of Tarani Barman on sports photography. Ever smiling Barman was also a sports pensioner.

His death was mourned by several organisations like ASJA, Assam Sepak Takraw Association, AFA, AOA, GSA, Assam Kho-kho Association, among others.

He leaves behind his wife and three sons, including sports scribe Bipul Barman and a host of relatives and well wishers.
