Noted architect passes away

GUWAHATI, Feb 23 � Renowned architect and author Upendra Kumar Baruah, breathed his last yesterday at Guwahati following a cardiac arrest. He was 78.

Born of late Surendra Kr Baruah and Bijoya Devi, at Tezpur, late Baruah obtained his Masters Degree from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago in 1961. He also obtained Master of City and Regional Planning from USA and subsequently worked in several renowned organisations in the US.

Baruah�s book � Portrait of a Gandhian � Biography of Dr Martin Luther King Jr., � was a part of the curriculum of the University of Minnesota, Minnapolis as a reference book. He returned from the USA in 1975 and worked as chief project architect of Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat.

He left behind his wife Kavita Baruah (Rose), younger sister of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, son Joor and daughter Heea.
