KAMPUR, Nov 23 People generally think that old age is a time of retirement from worldly affairs, which was proved false by Chandra Kanta Kataki, retired principal of Juria Higher Secondary School, who by dint of sheer will force and determination translated the Bhagawat Gita from Sanskrit to Assamese in poetical verses.

Kataki is 95 at present, and started the translation work only four years back.

Katakis astounding effort has been acclaimed by the intellectuals and litterateurs of Nagaon.

Kataki was accorded a warm reception by the people of Juria locality at a meeting held recently.

A lifelong teacher, Kataki had his education at Benaras University. He served in Nagaon Dawson Higher Secondary School for a brief period and then joined Juria Higher Secondary School to serve the poor students of the locality.

Later, he became the principal of the school. A recipient of State Award for Meritorious Service, Kataki is a soft-spoken and honest man.
