No spl panel to discuss NE problems: Centre

NEW DELHI, Aug 16 � The Centre has not constituted any special committee to discuss major problems faced in the development of North Eastern States.

Clarifying this Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region, Paban Singh Ghatowar said that the Government has however, constituted the North Eastern Council at Shillong to act as a regional planning body for the region.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha he said, the NEC also regularly organises meetings on different sectors of the region, which are attended by the representatives of the States. The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region regularly reviews various developmental issues related to the region wherein the States� representatives are involved, he added.
