Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

NALBARI, Jan 30 The Asam Gana Parishad (AGP) chief Chandra Mohan Patowary today clarified that the regional party has so far taken no decision to forge poll alliance with the national political parties, including All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) led by Badaruddin Ajmal.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a party meeting held at Balowa in Nalbari district, Patowary said that the AGP is rather discussing with regional and ethnic political parties on the possibility of forging a poll alliance. The discussions will be completed soon and the party will declare the names of party contestants. The AGP chief is hopeful that the AGP will come to the power, as the people are seeking an alternative to the Congress Government for the large-scale corruption.

Referring to AGP general secretary Sarbananda Sonowal, Patowary said that Sonowal still has not informed anything regarding his desire to quit AGP to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). I hope a leader like Sarbananda Sonowal, who is leading regionalism in the State will take no such decision, Patowary added.

Later, Patowary addressed in a party meeting which was presided over by Ananta Haloi, a senior AGP worker.
