NH 37 restricted for traffic

Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

DIBRUGARH, Sept 2 - The authorities have restricted traffic flow on National Highway 37 on the Moran Dibrugarh sector since this morning, as the swollen Buridehing river threatens to erode the highway between Halodhibari and Gammon bridge.

The measure is to avoid excessive vibration on the highway, caused by plying of heavy vehicles. It is feared that vehicular vibration could cause the highway to give way, which would cut off Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. Police sources said plying of heavy vehicles have been regulated on the highway section. Small vehicles have been allowed free movement, though.
