TURA, Jan 1 - The Association of Democracy and Empowerment, an NGO, has objected to the appointment of MS Rao as the Chief Secretary of Meghalaya.
�The news of appointment of Rao as the next Chief Secretary came as a shock to us. The appointment of bureaucrats is a natural process in a functional government and it is in no way our intention to meddle in the process, but superseding another officer of native origin in the procedure is objectionable,� said Dalseng B Ch Momin, president of the NGO.
The ADE stated that they opposed the �disregard shown to one of the State�s own deserving officer�, and urged the Chief Minister to look into the matter and take notice of the grievances aired by many NGOs of the State.
The ADE alleged that Rao�s stand on the Village Administration Bill issue of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council was �anti-tribal�.
