GUWAHATI, Oct 14 - City-based Swagat Super Specialty Hospital recently introduced the digital version (DSI) of the spyglass hepatic endoscopy system for the diagnosis and treatment of complicated cases of jaundice.

Chief surgeon at the hospital Dr Subhash Khanna said this is the only way through which suspicious cancer in one of the ducts of the liver can be diagnosed at an early stage, whereas by conventional means a false biopsy rate leading to an unnecessary surgery may be to the extent of 25 per cent.

While introducing the new spy cholangioscopy system, Dr Khanna said this is the only system available in North East India and there are very few centres in the country that have this facility. He also said that with the help of endoscopy spy cholangioscopy and holmium laser, almost all stones in the common bile and hepatic ducts deep inside the liver can be visualised and pulverized.
