GUWAHATI, March 6 � Dr Anjan Jyoti Chowdhury, son of eminent litterateur and dramatist Lakshyadhar Chowdhury today inaugurated the newly introduced sound system in the Tarun Ram Phookan Park in the city.
The musical arrangement has been done by Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) to make the evenings livelier in the park with patriotic and classical songs that would provide healthy recreation to the visitors.
After inaugurating the new facility with a Bhupendra Sangeet, Dr Chowdhury who is also an artiste and writer, lauded the effort of SGBG to provide a novel means of entertainment in the park.
In the meeting that was attended by a large number of people, it was also decided that the NGO would bring out a book on the accomplishments of Deshabhakta Tarun Ram Phookan within a year.
"Last year, Jnanpith Awardee Mamoni Raisom Goswami suggested us this idea and today we formally decided to start working on it," Dhiren Baruah, president of SGBG said.
"We always wanted to introduce newer facilities in the park for the benefit of the common people but could not do it due to lack of funds, since we only charge the entry fee from the adult visitors. Now with this new facility, we expect more visitors in the park, which, in turn, would help us to run the park in a better way," he added.
"The place has got a new lease of life with this musical facility. It has created a festive atmosphere in the area," said Gautam Bannerjee, businessman and a regular visitor.
"The sound system, playing classical songs of our renowned singers and motivating speeches by our leaders would definitely inspire and entertain our younger generation," Bhupen Singh, former principal of the Pragjyotish College added.
