GUWAHATI, July 10 - A new political party named Liberal Democratic Party, Assam, was launched at Guwahati Press Club today. The new party with Pradyut Bora as its president promised to take on national parties like the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party on issues of development.

Addressing mediapersons, Bora said that the LDP would grow to be an alternative to both Congress and the BJP and work for the holistic welfare of the society.

Bora, who had quit the BJP recently over some differences with the party leadership, criticised the Congress for indulging in corruption and also went on to flay the saffron party for indulging in acts of deception.

Bora said, People of Assam are on the lookout for an alternative as both Congress and the BJP have failed to live up to the expectations of the people. He was of the opinion that the State is in need of an economic revolution.

The LDP today also announced two organisational wings, including a Mahila Morcha and a Yuva Morcha.

Senior journalist DN Bezboruah, while lighting the inaugural lamp, hoped that the new party will be able to uphold the highest traditions of democracy.
