Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

SHILLONG, Oct 31 - Senior police officer SB Singh today took temporary charge as Meghalaya DGP after SK Jain retired from the post at the end of his tenure.

Singh is a 1986 IPS official and was the additional DGP. For the interim period SB Singh would take temporary charge of DGP's post, Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh said.

Singh assumed the DGPs chair as the State Security Commission (SSC) has been unable to identify an official willing or suitable to take charge as a full-fledged DGP.

Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, who is the SSC chairman, said recently that the Commission is on the lookout for the right official to fill the vacancy.
