NE Tiwa cultural fest from today

JAGIROAD, Jan 28 � The four-day North-East India Tiwa Cultural Festival will be held for the second time at �Sograsal�, the venue of the festival near Jagiroad from tomorrow with various programmes to highlight and showcase varied aspects of the lives of the Tiwas under the canopy of the rich culture heritage of the North-East.

The festival will begin with inauguration of the main gate of the �Sograsal� by Jatin Goswami, Sangeet Natak Academy Award winner while Tulsi Bordoloi, president of the organising committee will hoist the festival flag. Murulidhar Das, a researcher on Tiwas and Bibekananda Chaudhury, Director, Cultural Affairs, Govt of Assam will inaugurate the exhibition-cum-Tiwa Food Fair, and �Wan-Chua Miswa� a Tiwa folk festival respectively while Chetana Das will inaugurate a cultural function.

Harendra Bora, president, Morigaon Zila Sahitya Sabha will release the souvenir published on the occasion while Kumud Ch Kalita, Director, Tourism Department, Assam will inaugurate another Tiwa folk festival named �Yangli Pluja Miswa�. Swapnanil Baruah, Commissioner, Industry department will inaugurate a cultural function on January 30.

Pritom Saikia, Commissioner, Cultural Affairs department, Assam will inaugurate a seminar titled �role of new generation in the development of Tiwa folk culture� where Narayan Kr Rodokakati, Maheswar Pator, Nadiram Deuri, Lalsing Madar and Lan Kholar will participate. Rajat Ganguli, Director, Sangeet Natak Academy, North East Centre, Guwahati will inaugurate a traditional Tiwa dress exhibition in which Narayan Konwar Additional Commissioner, Guwahati Municipal Corporation will attend as a chief guest. Munin Borthakur, social worker will inaugurate a cultural procession on February 1 which will be followed by the open session to be held under the chairmanship of Tulsi Bordoloi.
