NEW DELHI, Sept 8 � The North East MPs� Forum has urged the Prime Minister to recommend Dr Bhupen Hazarika for Bharat Ratna.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, written on the occasion of his birthday, the MP�s Forum said that conferring the country�s highest civilian award would not only benefit the cause of folk music but also would be a quantum jump in emotional integration of the people of North-east with rest of the country.
The Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner is hailed widely for his role as India�s cultural ambassador for placing folk music on the world map, the letter signed by chairman Mukut Mithi and general secretary Biren Baishya stated.
