HAFLONG, Feb 2 - Setting February 16 as the deadline for payment of compensation, the NC Hills Indigenous Students Forum and Indigenous Womens Forum have threatened indefinite rail blockade from February 17, informed the president of NCHISF David Keivom at a press meet held in the office of NC Hills Indigenous Students Forum here on Saturday.
It may be recalled that both the organisations had jointly called the blockade from March 7 to 9 last year, but called it off after receiving invitation from the Chief Minister.
On March 11 last under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, a joint meeting was held at Guwahati to discuss the issue of granting compensation.
In the meeting, the Chief Minister had directed the General Manager of NF Railway to pay compensation to all the concerned people, following which the General Manager assured to do the needful.
They aggrieved people once again approached the Chief Minister on November 21 last and reminded the NF Railway authority to release the compensation.
Though the NF Railway authority had assured to release the compensation amount, but till date no payment has been made, they alleged.
The General Manager of NF Railway had earlier given assurance that they would release the compensation after submission of the joint survey report. Though one year has elapsed after the aforementioned chain of events, but no payment has been made.
It is evident from the present happenings that the NF Railway authority has not cared to honour their commitment before the Chief Minister, following which we have no other option left other than to organise an agitational programme as aforementioned, for which act the NCHISF and IWF should not be held responsible, the to-be agitators stated in the press meet.
