TURA, Nov 24 An engineer of the National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) was kidnapped on November 22 from near the Border Outpost (BOP) of Rongara in South Garo Hills district, according to a delayed report.

According to police, the abductors claimed to be members of ANVC (B), which is currently in the process of concluding a peace pact with the Central and State Governments. However, the veracity of the claims could not be ascertained.

According to information received, engineer Anil Kumar Srivastava (54), who was looking after the project on border flood lights was abducted by six armed men.

The NBCC engineer was abducted from his rented house in Rongara village. Some junior engineers were forced to show the location where Srivastava was staying. They woke him up and took him away, said a police official.

The next morning, the NBCC staff fled from the camp and did not even inform the police. The NBCC team alerted their bosses, who informed the police headquarters in Shillong, said an official. Srivastava is still believed to be in Rongara area though raids have not been successful in finding him.

Whether any demand has been made for the release of Srivastava is unknown.
