DIMAPUR, April 12 - In order to reach out to the people on the issue of clean election in the State, the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) and Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) Nagaland have joined hands to carry forward the campaign.

Both the organisations took the decision at a consultative meeting here recently. This was stated in a statement issued by NBCC and ACAUT. The consultative meeting was held to discuss the concern of pervasive electoral and election malpractices in the State and steps to be adopted to curb such practices.

The clean election campaign was initiated by NBCC. Addressing the gathering, NBCC general secretary Rev Zelhou Keyho told the leaders that even though the clean election campaign was initiated by the church, the movement was a common property because the church and society exists side by the side and the sacred cannot be detached from the secular.

Therefore, it is everyones business to curb the malpractices prevailing in our State, he added. Both the organisations recognised the fact that the root cause of corruption in the State is the prevailing ill practices of election process.

NBCC and the ACAUT felt the strong need to set the moral tone by raising the level of awareness among the masses and the electorate. They have called on civil society organisations and the church organisations regardless of denominations to stand up and support the NBCCs initiative against the pervasive malpractices of election by holding consultative meeting to educate the electorate at different levels, the joint statement said.
