TEZPUR, March 27 - The demise of noted theatre personality, �Natya Samrat� Suren Mahanta,who passed away on Wednesday night at around 9.30 pm at a private nursing home here was deeply condoled by many organisations here.
The noted actor and inhabitant of Gatanga area here, who was suffering from prolonged illness was 73.
Born on November 4, 1949, Late Mahanta carved a niche for himself in the theatre world through his indomitable acting talent. He got involved in the theatre world acting in the historic theatre platform like Baan Theatre, Rupayan, Swargam etc., establishing himself as a an unconquerable theatre personality. Later he joined mobile theatre and became a major presence. He got the best actor�s award, Bishnu Rava award, along with Assam Government�s artistes� pension. He also acted in Assamese films, Sonma, Gun Gun Gane Gane, Phehujali, Raktabeez among many others.
Different organisations like Baan Theatre, Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, Natrajam Kalamandir, Usha Natya Samaj, Sonitpur Journalists� Union and Sonitpur Press Club paid their last tribute to the noted artiste.
He leaves behind his wife and four sons. His last rites were performed on Thursday in the presence of a host of his admirers.
