Nat�l Scientific Temperament Day observed

GUWAHATI, Aug 20 - National Scientific Temperament Day (NSTD) was observed throughout the State today under the aegis of the State chapter of the All India People�s Science Network (AIPSN). The call for observing the NSTD was given by the AIPSN to uphold a scientific temperament.

It needs mention that on August 20, noted rationalist and pioneer of the country�s movement for popularising science Dr Narendra Dabholkar was assassinated by assailants engaged by the forces of reaction. Dabholkar was also a stalwart in the fight against obscurantist forces.

At the call of the Assam chapter of the AIPSN the NSTD was observed today throughout the State with various programmes.

In the city, a public meeting was held on the occasion at the Lakhiram Barua Sadan at 4.30 pm. The meeting was presided over by noted botanist and president of the Assam Science Society Dr Soneswar Sarma.

Addressing the meeting, noted scientist Dr Dinesh Chandra Goswami underlined the importance of scientific temperament in today�s perspective and lamented the growing incidents of attack on rationalism and scientific ideas in the country and other parts of the globe.
