National seminar concludes

DIBRUGARH, Feb 6 - A two-day national seminar on �Trends in Biological Sciences and Sustainable Development� concluded today at Dibrugarh University here.

The seminar, which begun yesterday was organized by the Department of Life Sciences, Dibrugarh University with an objective to provide a common platform for the scientists, researchers and academicians from different arena to interact, exchange and share ideas to utilize the biological resources sustainably and also to explore possibilities in the biological sciences for sustainable development.

The seminar held at the conference hall of the Centre for Management Studies of the varsity was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor Professor Ranjit Tamuli. Former Director of Regional Medical Research Centre, Dibrugarh, Dr J Mohanta also spoke during the inaugural programme. The plenary talk in the inaugural session was delivered by the Chief Guest, Professor NC Talukdar, Director, Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology, Guwahati, Assam.

The other dignitaries included Professor B K Dutta, former Professor, Assam University, Silchar and currently Member of NEC, Shillong, Meghalaya, Professor RNS Yadav, Dean, Faculty of Biological Sciences, Dibrugarh University, Dr Devid Kardong, Head, Department of Life Sciences and other faculty members of the university.

Altogether seventy five participants from different institutions of the country attended the seminar and presented their papers in the same. There were total seven technical sessions for oal presentations with chairpersons � Professor B K Dutta, Professor R Samanta, Professor SP Biswas, Professor DS Bora, Professor LR Saikia, Professor RNS Yadav and Dr D Kardong respectively. The rapporteurs for the oral sessions were Dr P Chetia, Dr MK Singh, M Puzari, Dr M Borkataky, Dr S Sinha, Dr AK Chaliha respectively.
