National Science Day celebrations

GUWAHATI, Feb 23 � February 28 is celebrated as National Science Day all over the country, to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir CV Raman, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930. It is an opportunity to popularise science and help the growth of scientific temper among the community at large, especially among the students.

The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology and Cotton College State University have planned to organise Science Day on February 28 and March 1, at the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology, Paschim Boragaon here.

There will be quiz competition, extempore speech competition, scientific model display, exhibition, documentary show and popular science.

Participation is free for all and the winners will be awarded cash prizes. Well-known scientists like Dr Prasanta Goswami, chief scientist, C-MMACS, Bengaluru, Dr PVS Anand, Associate Professor, AIMSCS, Hyderabad and Dr Dinesh Goswami, former Chief Scientist, NEIST, Jorhat are scheduled to deliver speeches on the occasion.

Students, teachers, guardians and all interested can participate in the two-day programme. Transportation will be provided from the city and its adjacent areas, said a press release.
