National School Games Football gets off

GUWAHATI, Feb 3 � The 60th National School Games Football Tournament, boys and girls in the age group of U-14 years, got off today in five different venues in the city here.

Altogether 25 States are participating in the five-day tournament. While all the 25 States are taking part in the boys� section the number of girls� teams is 17.

Assam today made winning a start in the championship as the host�s girls� team edged past Chattishgarh 1-0. Junaki Boro netted the all important goal for Assam. In the boys section also Assam trounced Delhi 3-1.

Bishnu Boroloi opened the account in the 15th minute while Aman Chetri netted two goals in the 56th and 58th minutes respectively. For Delhi Daya scored their lone goal in the 57th minute.

The tournament was formally inaugurated by Ajay Tiwari, Commissioner and Secretary to the Govt of Assam, Sports and Youth Welfare Department. School Games Federation of India official Himangshu Sharma, noted footballers Durga Boro, Alen Deori, SAI city centre Director in charge Subhash Basumatary were present in the opening ceremony, Director of Sports Anjan Sarma welcomed the gathering and the teams.

Other results of the day: (Boys) West Bengal bt Chandigarh 3-0, Chattishgarh bt Andhra Pradesh 60, Mizoram bt Tamil Nadu 11-0, Uttarakhand bt Himachal Pradesh 8-0, Rajasthan bt CBSE 3-0, Punjab bt Karnataka 4-0, Haryana bt J&K 3-0, Gujrat bt Madhya Pradesh 2-1.

Girls: Maipur bt Andhra Pradesh 11-0, West Bengal bt CBSE 14-0, Maharashtra bt Chandigarh 4-1, Meghalaya bt Tamil Nadu 5-0, Gujrat bt Vidya Bharati 15-0, Mizoram bt Telengana 1-0.
