Nagaland set to cover all voters under EPIC

KOHIMA, May 30 � Nagaland is all set to start the process of preparing photo electoral rolls and electoral photo identity cards (EPIC) from June 1 with an aim to cover all the eligible voters under the programme, reports PTI.

Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Jane Alam told newsmen here today that the process of taking photograph of voters would begin with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio at his official residence on the morning of June 1.

The photography campaign will be launched across the state in two phases during the months of June and July and necessary software for preparing EPIC and photo electoral rolls has been developed.

The entire process with mandatory verification of entries will be completed by September 30 next.

The CEO said necessary training for field level staff has already commenced under the supervision of the respective district administration.

The EC has asked the state government not to carry out transfer and posting of officers involved with the photography campaign till the process is completed and accordingly the state government issued necessary notification.

This exercise was undertaken in Nagaland in 1990s and only 41 per cent of the voters could be covered under the EPIC.
