DIMAPUR, July 1 - Nagaland reported 42 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, taking its tally to 501. According to the State Health Department, the fresh cases have been reported from Phek, Peren, Kohima and Dimapur districts.
The State also reported 14 recoveries today. With this latest update, Nagaland has now 319 active cases and 182 recovered cases.
Meanwhile, the State has received 16,500 returnees till date, official sources said. The latest phase of the COVID-19 lockdown commenced from Wednesday, which will end on July 15.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that the Cabinet has taken the decision to extend the lockdown �in view of the increased number of positive cases of COVID-19 in the State�.
According to the Chief Minister, the Cabinet decision was �taken based on the report by the Medical and Home departments as well as the opinions of various districts, which have recommended the lockdown extension�.
