Nagaland bill to protect depositors

KOHIMA, July 25 - The Nagaland Assembly on Friday passed two bills � The Nagaland Protection of Interests of Depositors (In Financial Establishment) Bill, 2014 and The Nagaland State Legislature Members (Removal of Disqualification) First Amendment Bill, 2015, by voice vote.

The Depositors Protection bill was introduced by Chief Minister T R Zeliang, while minister for Social Welfare Kiyanielie laid the Legislature Members Bill yesterday in the House.

The Nagaland Protection of Interests of Depositors (In Financial Establishment) Bill, 2014 sought to check the activities of financial establishments engaged in the business of receiving deposits under various schemes and safeguard the interests of the depositors.

Two bills, The Nagaland Lokayukta Bill, 2015 and The Nagaland Prohibition of Gambling and Promotion and Regulation of Online Games of Skill Bill, 2015 which were also introduced yesterday by the CM and were supposed to be taken up for consideration and passing today, were deferred for the final day of the session on July 27.

Speaker Chotisuh Sazo told the House that the consideration and passing of the two nills have been deferred on request of the state government. � PTI
