Naga human rights activist passes away

DIMAPUR, July 23 - Noted human rights activist and founding member of Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR), Ahu Sakhrie passed away today in Kohima. He worked selflessly not only for the Nagas but also for the people of North East against human rights violations.

Sakhrie was very vocal against the imposition of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). According to the NSCN-IM, he was the first person to file a petition in the Supreme Court against AFSPA. A native of Khonoma village, he was one of the visionary leaders amongst Nagas, the NSCN (IM) said in a press release.
