Musical extravaganza in city

GUWAHATI, Jan 16 - Promiti Phukan and her pupils will present �Cadenza,� an evening to celebrate music, at the ITA, Machkhowa here at 6 pm tomorrow. With the piano being the focal medium, it promises to be a musical extravaganza with varied presentations, ranging from western classical to contemporary. In its third edition this time, there are also two guest artists of international acclaim performing on stage along with Promiti and her students � Girish Pradhan, renowned artist and frontman of the popular band, Girish and the Chronicles, and Nise Meruno, a pianist of international repute and brand ambassador of Yamaha pianos, with his group, Zowe Madrigal.

Promiti Phukan is a reputed piano teacher and among the top known pianists of Assam. Having completed 8 grades from the Trinity College of Music, London, Phukan has been teaching the piano for a decade-and-a-half now. She teaches the piano in a number of institutions including Maria�s Public School as a full-time music teacher. With performances across Guwahati, Assam and the North East with leading bands, she has also had the privilege of performing as a soloist for the then President of India, Pratibha Patil, in 2010.

Putting up a show in which budding musicians would get a platform to showcase their talent was always Promiti�s dream. This dream became a reality when she decided to stage Cadenza in 2013.

Besides Phukan and her students, guest artists are also a part of Cadenza. Artists like Nise Meruno, Rittique Phukan of the popular band, Voodoo Child, Ronojit Chaliha, jazz pianist and Rajeshwar Bardoloi, Promiti�s teacher, have all been a part of Cadenza, an e-mail received here stated.
