GUWAHATI, July 4 - The Kamrup Metro district administration today directed all the circle officers (COs) to remove encroachments from the water bodies, natural channels and drains in and around Guwahati.

The COs have been directed to take help of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and the water resources department in this regard.

Further, they (COs) are also asked to inspect the desiltation work undertaken by departments concerned and submit a report within seven days, said Dr M Angamuthu, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro.

He said a report from the GMC Commissioner has been received regarding encroachment and re-encroachment on the drains-cum-footpaths and natural channels and it has been observed that these encroachments are blocking the natural flow of water and causing severe water-logging in different areas of the city.
