GUWAHATI, June 26 - The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Oil India Limited (OIL) and the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) will ink a memorandum of understanding, as part of which the plastic waste generated in and around Guwahati will be converted into furnace oil.

Guwahati Development Department (GDD) Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the waste-to-energy micro refinery project will require 10 bighas of land which will be allotted by the State Government.

This will be the third such project in India after Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, Sarma said, adding that the project will help in mitigating the problem of artificial flood confronting Guwahati.
