Moran bodies to intensify agitation

TINSUKIA, Nov 26 � The agitational programmes of the Moran ethnic group demanding Scheduled Tribe status for the community will continue. Arunjyoti Chutia Moran, president, AAMSU, one of the five organisations of the ethnic group, in a press meet held at the Press Club here today, stated that they had lifted the Rail Roko programme on Friday night only for the time being, and that it might be resumed at any time in the near future.

The other protest programmes namely, stalling of oil exploration and transportation in Tinsukia district, continued on Saturday. He affirmed that till the Moran community gets the ST status, there would be no rest and the agitation would be intensified.

He also warned that the Government alone would be responsible for any adverse consequences due to their agitation.

The press conference was attended by the office-bearers of the other Moran organisations namely, Asom Moran Sabha, Moran Mahila Jatiyo Parishad, Sodou Moran Kala Sangskritik Bikash Kendra and Moran Jatiyo Karmachari Saikkhik Bikash Mancha.
