GUWAHATI, Jan 28 - Mohan Lal Sharma, who was a seniormost Guwahati-based Chartered Accountant of the North East region since 1962, expired on January 27 at his Ananda Nagar residence at GS Road in Guwahati. He was 85.
He specialised in direct taxes and was consecutively three-term president of the Guwahati Tax Bar Association and also past president of the Federation of North East Tax Bar Associations, Guwahati.
Sharma was appointed by the Union Finance Ministry in 1984 as a member of the then Regional Direct Taxes Advisory Committee, North East Region, Shillong for a term of three years.
He actively participated either as a speaker or chairman in a number of professional study circle meetings, seminars and working groups. He also served as the Director of Gauhati Stock Exchange Ltd. representing public interest on behalf of SEBI for a term of three years upto 2003.
He was co-opted member of the Committee on Financial Markets and Investor Protection of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, New Delhi during 1998-99.
An active senior Rotarian, he served as president of the Rotary Club of Guwahati. Besides his professional engagements, he was also engaged in philanthropic activities.
He leaves behind his wife, 3 sons and 2 daughters, besides a host of relatives and well-wishers.
