Mobile Internet service suspended in Meghalaya again

SHILLONG, June 16 - The State Home Department once again suspended the mobile Internet service in several districts of the State from this evening. The Director General of Police, SB Singh, has sought the suspension in view of the prevailing law-and-order situation.

Officials said that reports have been received about the fragile law-and-order situation in some districts and as a precautionary measure, the mobile Internet services has been suspended for the next 48 hours from Saturday evening.

The officials stated that messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and others are likely to be misused to send information through pictures, videos and text messages that may potentially inflame passions. Therefore, the mobile Internet service has been suspended in Khasi, Jaintia and Ri-Bhoi districts.
