Mizoram tipper truckers ban outsider trucks

Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

AIZAWL, July 2 - Mizoram Tipper Association (MTA), an umbrella organisation of tipper truck operators in the State has announced an indefinite ban on what it calls outsider trucks, operated by non-tribals from outside the State, starting from Sunday.

Following the ban, no trucks from outside the State have entered Mizoram since Sunday.

As per the Mizoram tipper operators diktat, trucks from outside the State, especially those carrying sand and bricks, are prohibited from entering Mizoram. The Association is of the view that these trucks from outside the State are intruding into the livelihood of the local truck owners and drivers owing to rapid increase in the number of trucks from outside.

Earlier in May, the Association had served an ultimatum to the so-called outsider trucks to stop operating in Mizoram and threatened to launch a ban if they continue to carry out operation.
