Mizoram Guv talks to President about NE

AIZAWL, Jan 9 - Mizoram Governor Lt Gen Nirbhay Sharma (Rtd) yesterday informed President Pranab Mukherjee about the needs of Mizoram and other Northeastern States during a video conference of Governors and Union Territories organised by Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Chaired by Governor of Andhra Pradesh & Telegana ESL Narasimhan, the video conference was held during which Shri Pranab Mukherjee interacted with the Governors. Mizoram Governor, who was among six Governors to speak during the video conference, apprised the President of the needs of Mizoram and other NE States.

The President asked the Governors to cooperate with the Judiciary, the Legislature and the Executive as they are the constitutional head of the State and responsible for the development of the country.

Besides asking them to transform their respective Raj Bhavan to smart Raj Bhavan, the President urged the Governors that they should also change their respective State into a smart State.

The Mizoram Governor also spoke on the need for measures to ensure the safety of the people in NE which lie in the seismic zone. Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, where about 25 per cent of the State population lived, is not safe from natural disasters, he said and wanted the Central Government to to conduct a disaster audit.

Governors od 31 States and Lt Governors of seven UTs took part in the video conference.
