Mizoram bandh peaceful

AIZAWL, Feb 25 � A 12-hour State-wide bandh called by opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) to protest against hike in price of rice sold through PDS and exorbitant increase in taxes passed off peacefully today. No untoward incident has been reported during the bandh.

The bandh was strictly observed in the State from 5 am to 5 pm with streets in the State capital and towns remaining deserted as people stayed indoors. All government offices, institutions, banks, market places and business establishments also remained closed.

The bandh, however, did not cover Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) area as VC elections was held there. MNF senior vice president Tawnluia thanked the public for their support to the bandh.
