SILCHAR, Oct 8: Former Borkhola MLA and an ardent Congressman from Barak Valley Misbahul Islam Laskar has slammed the Congress for its one-eyed stance towards minorities.

Expressing his wish to contest in the Lok Sabha elections from the coveted Silchar seat, Laskar told The Assam Tribune on Monday, "I am a Congressman at heart but the Congress does not want me in the league. The Congress has never wanted a leader from the minority community to rise up the political ranks."

The former legislator who was sidelined by the Congress in the 2011 Assembly elections hinted that he has had talks with Firhad Hakim, a Minister in the Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal and was preparing to amass support to challenge the BJP.
