DHUBRI, May 6 - A group of migrant toymakers, who came from Saharasa and Khagaria districts of Bihar, a couple of months back, are now stuck in Dhubri. They generally make different kinds of clay toys and sell them to markets as per demand of the people. But due to the ongoing lockdown, they have not been able to sell their toys. The lockdown has severely hit our people to a large extent as toys which we manufactured for the Ashokastami Mela, remained with us due to lack of demand, Mohamamd Amim, the group leader told this correspondent.
The clay toys, which they make have a huge demand in the market, and , therefore, they ( toymakers) come every year to Dhubri and its neighbouring areas.
He also said, This year our business is poor. We have finished whatever we brought with us from Bihar. We want to go to our native villages as we are facing shortage of food. A section of people has extended help by providing food, but how long will it continue, he asked. Amim appealed to the district administration to arrange a transport service so that they can return to Bihar. We are spending sleepless nights as we do not have any money to buy food and medicines, if such situation continues for a long time we will die, he said.
