Meghalaya village official abducted

SHILLONG, March 30 � Heavily-armed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militants abducted a village employment council secretary in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, police said today.

The council official, Animul Haque, was abducted yesterday while he was coming from the Selsela block office, they said.

According to the police, Haque was forced into a waiting vehicle outside the block office.

The police are launching a manhunt to trace the abducted village official and the militants. Meghalaya Police�s Special Weapons and Tactics and CRPF�s CoBRA commandos have been activated in a combing and rescue operation in the area, police said. � PTI
