Meghalaya planning integrated basin development

TURA, June 25 � The Meghalaya Government will seek active participation of the villagers in its flagship programme of Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood and encourage the people to form village councils to undertake activities relating to governance.

This was disclosed at a press conference here by Commissioner and Secretary Planning, RN Mishra.

Earlier, a workshop on the programme was held for officials from various departments of East, West and South Garo Hills to apprise them of the objective of the programme and initiate measures enabling its implementation in different basin areas.

The programme focused on Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture, Fisheries, Irrigation and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary. The Commissioner said that the objective of the programme was to promote optimal and effective development utilising basin resources for ensuring livelihood security and inclusive growth within a sustainable framework.
