SHILLONG, July 14 - The Meghalaya Government today stated that it would not extend the two-day lockdown here and the adjoining areas ending today, as the process of contact tracing of COVID-19 infected persons is more or less complete.
The lockdown was imposed on Monday after the State Government said that officials would conduct contact tracing in different parts of the State capital, following a surge in positive cases of COVID-19, during these two days.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the Meghalaya Government, after a review meeting, decided not to continue the lockdown. The lockdown was meant for contact tracing and as of today, it is more or less complete, he added.
Tynsong said that 198 high-risk contacts have been identified in the State capital and the State Government has decided to ask these people to stay quarantined in their respective homes. Details of these contacts have been shared with all local headmen and COVID management committees to monitor movement of these people so that they do not mix in their localities, he added.
Giving information about people in institutional quarantine, the Deputy Chief Minister said that 13 are lodged in the NEIGRIHMS, 24 in the Shillong Civil Hospital and the rest are in the Indian Institute of Management Corona Care Centre (CCC) at Umsawli.
Personnel of the paramilitary and armed forces are in their respective hospitals. Some children have been kept in their homes with the help of the local community.
Meanwhile, the review meeting also decided to have more CCCs in Meghalaya. At present there is one CCC in each of the 11 districts. The State capital has more than one. Five more CCCs will be established here. As of now, the BSF headquarters at Umpling and Mawpat are the only containment zones in the State. Random testing will be conducted in areas close to the BSF headquarters from Wednesday.
